Summary: If Carlton was on the skids before, they could be in tatters this week following the sacking of coach Denis Pagan. A change of coach can sometimes stir a burst of newfound enthusiasm in players - but to accomplish anything they still need the personnel and the Blues remain sadly lacking. They have little left to play for, with caretaker coach Brett Ratten taking on the thankless task of trying to get an undermanned side up against a better team. Carlton's 117-point demolition at the hands of Brisbane exposed the side's inadequacies to the point of embarrassment. The Saints go into the game lifted by their win over third-placed Hawthorn and ready to reap a percentage-booster from the Blues clash. Through every key position it's hard to see Carlton winning a line on the ground.

Key: Saint big man Justin Koschitzke wisely chose to accept a one-match ban for a silly hit last week but that still leaves spearheads Fraser Gehrig and Nick Riewoldt in attack. Jonathan Brown's 10-goal haul last week shows the fragility of the Blues' defence. Tip - St Kilda by 40 points
