WESTERN Bulldogs veteran Scott West is in doubt for today's match against Sydney at the SCG. The champion midfielder is struggling with bone stress to the knee and faces a fitness test.
The undefeated Bulldogs have not beaten Sydney since 2002 and the match is one of the two most contrasting styles in the competition. The free-running Dogs will face the ultra-defensive Swans, the masters at locking up a match.
Yesterday, the Dogs refuted radio reports that West could miss the next two months because of knee problems. He has already missed two games earlier this year after having surgery on the knee to clean out scar tissue.
A club spokesperson said the bone stress had developed over time and had been revealed during the scans for the surgery in April.
After today's match against the Swans, West will be able to rest during the Hall of Fame match weekend.
Yesterday, the Bulldogs had a light session on the SCG and coach Rodney Eade said his team was ready to end Sydney's hold over the club.
"The key is to be able to match (the Swans' lockdown style)," he said. "In the past we haven't been able to match that for a variety of reasons.
"They're one of the most disciplined sides in the competition, they certainly work hard for each other and work hard when they haven't got the footy.
"So we don't come here with delusions of grandeur that we're going to kick 18 to 20 goals as we have in the past six games. We're just hoping to kick one more goal than them."
