THE depth of the pre-season draft field thinned yesterday as Jude Bolton and Kane Tenace agreed to new deals with Sydney and Geelong respectively.

The Swans recontracted Bolton, a premiership midfielder, to a new two-year contract less than a week after flagging the possibility of moving him to another club.

Likewise, Tenace, who began the AFL trade period on Geelong's list of potential departures before being placed off limits, has agreed to a deal that will keep him in blue-and-white hoops until the end of 2009.

During last week's buy-and-sell, in which the Swans sent premiership players Adam Schneider and Sean Dempster to St Kilda and acquired Martin Mattner from Adelaide and Henry Playfair from Geelong, Bolton was made available if a first-round pick was forthcoming.

When nibbles at that price didn't eventuate, the Swans said Bolton would remain with them. Yesterday — as the club delisted Simon Phillips, Luke Vogels, Jonathan Simpkin and rookies Matthew Davis and Earl Shaw — they made sure Bolton fronted up next year with an increase in financial terms to ensure he did not take his chances in the pre-season draft.

After trading out four players last week, Geelong delisted three more and culled two rookies yesterday. The Cats, with Steven King, Charlie Gardiner, Playfair and Tim Callan moved on last week, cut Matthew Spencer, Sam Hunt and Stephen Owen and let go rookies Joel Reynolds and Todd Grima.

The cuts created openings for Tom Lonergan and Jason Davenport to be upgraded to the senior list for next year. Liam Bedford was offered a second season as a rookie and in total the premier will have five selections in next month's national draft.

■Melbourne has added another assistant to the off-field team around new coach Dean Bailey, with former Demon Kelly O'Donnell joining the club as development coach. O'Donnell played 80 games for the Demons between 1979 and 1984 and later coached the Murray Bushrangers for eight years before joining Fremantle where he had been an assistant for the past seven years.

Since the season's close, Melbourne has appointed Bailey as senior coach, hired Chris Connolly as the head of football operations, brought Sean Wellman across from the Western Bulldogs to be an assistant and now added to that list with O'Donnell.

■St Kilda yesterday announced the delistment of Barry Brooks, Phil Raymond, Justin Sweeney and Fergus Watts, with rookie James Wall also making an exit from Moorabbin. Jarryn Geary and Clinton Jones have been elevated to the senior list while Jayden Attard, Robert Eddy and ruckman Luke van Rheenen have been retained on the rookie list for 2008.

■Shaun McManus, the one Fremantle player left with a connection to the club's foundation season of 1995, has been offered a one-year contract. The 31-year-old former captain, who has doggedly held on to a career often threatened by injury, played all 22 games this year for a career tally of 217.

Matthew Carr has also signed a new one-year agreement with the Dockers.

McManus shared the distinction of being a member of the Dockers' first list with full-back Shane Parker until Parker announced his retirement in August.
