COLLINGWOOD ruckman Josh Fraser has failed to overcome the knee injury received while playing for Victoria last week and will miss tonight's clash against St Kilda at the Telstra Dome but the Magpies have taken a chance on the fitness of Anthony Rocca.
Fraser was ruled out last night but there was more confidence about Rocca's return after the forward had missed the past two matches because of an ankle injury.
Chris Bryan, who has not played a game this year, will take the ruck role, while Sharrod Wellingham also comes into the team. Ryan Cook and Tyson Goldsack have both been omitted. The Saints have lost Nick Riewoldt (knee), Xavier Clarke (hamstring), Matt Maguire (foot) and Steven Baker (knee) all to injury. They have added to the team Jason Blake, Leigh Fisher, Steven King and Max Hudghton.
Coach Ross Lyon said yesterday, despite their list of injuries, the Saints were still thinking positively.
Richmond has recalled Joel Bowden for the clash against Geelong, after the defender spent a month in the form wilderness. The Cats have named Gary Ablett after two weeks on the sidelines because of a calf injury.
Several clubs have elevated rookies this week as long-term injuries take their toll. Melbourne, which plays Adelaide on Sunday, has promoted Shane Valenti, a 21-year-old from Sandringham, to replace injured skipper David Neitz.
North Melbourne and West Coast have both named rookies for tomorrow night's clash on the Gold Coast. The Roos have named Alan Obst, who replaced Leigh Adams, and the Eagles have named Ryan Davis in place of Mitch Brown.
Josh Gibson, who injured his knee in round four, will return to the Kangaroos' defence but they have lost Daniel Pratt to a groin injury. The Roos have also named Matt Riggio and Scott McMahon. Leigh Brown, Scott Thompson and Josh Smith have all been dropped.
The Eagles are bolstered by the return of Matt Priddis, Mark Seaby and Brent Staker but have lost Chad Jones (ankle), Beau Waters (thigh) and Jamie McNamara (thigh) to injury and have omitted Steven Armstrong.
Hawthorn has made one compulsory change for the match against Port Adelaide in Launceston tomorrow. Luke Hodge, who tore a hamstring against Collingwood and has been in hospital to have his appendix removed, has been replaced by Chance Bateman. The Power have made no changes.
Carlton has lost Cameron Cloke with a wrist injury for the match against Brisbane Lions at Telstra Dome tomorrow night. Cain Ackland will replace him as ruckman. Richard Hadley also returns after two weeks out but David Ellard has been omitted. The Lions gain Jonathan Brown, Simon Black, Travis Johnstone, Josh Drummond and Jason Roe. They have axed Matthew Leuenberger, Lachlan Henderson, Cheynee Stiller, Albert Proud and Robert Copeland.
