TWO days after his name was called out, Collingwood's first draft pick Steele Sidebottom has confirmed that he has one outstanding athletic trait — stamina.

Sidebottom, taken by the Magpies with pick No. 11 in Saturday's national draft, finished third in the club's two-kilometre time trial yesterday, beaten only by Martin Clarke and Scott Pendlebury, in a time of six minutes and 11 seconds.

Collingwood's club website reported that Clarke, whom the club hopes to play more regularly in the midfield, clocked 6:05, while Pendlebury was timed at 6:10.

Sidebottom, a midfielder who can play forward and booted 10 goals for the Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup grand final, tested slow in the 20-metre sprint at the draft camp.

But the Magpies believe that his combination of high aerobic capacity, lateral movement and football nous will compensate for any lack of natural leg speed.

Collingwood recruiting manager Derek Hine said after the draft that Sidebottom "played quick".
