FOUR days after being struck by a tram, Richmond footballer Graham Polak's condition remains satisfactory, according to staff at The Alfred hospital.
Polak was brought out of a medically induced coma on Monday. Initial scans showed the 24-year-old suffered bruising on the brain when he was hit by the tram near his home in Armadale.
Richmond director of football Greg Miller described Polak's improvement as "remarkable" on Tuesday, but club spokeswoman Judith Donnelly said yesterday Polak was "still very tired and confused" and was expected to spend most of the day sleeping. "A major milestone is that he is now eating and is continuing to recognise some names and faces during the brief time he's awake."
Donnelly said there had been no significant change in his condition since Tuesday night, but doctors had told the club that was "not uncommon" in patients with similar injuries.
"Graham still has a very long way to go in his recovery," Donnelly said.
"However, the club remains optimistic and we have been buoyed by the support of our supporters and the general community."
