CARLTON captain Chris Judd has returned to the training track after a heavy collision with Essendon skipper Matthew Lloyd left him concussed in their round-13 encounter.
Judd missed the Blues' impressive win against Richmond last week and failed to train earlier this week, sparking another round of injury rumours. But the skipper trained yesterday and Carlton assistant coach Mark Riley said Judd would be ready to play in the Blues' match against St Kilda next Friday.
"He should be right. We've got another week-and-a-bit to go, and he feels good this morning, so obviously the three or four-day break's done him well," Riley said yesterday.
"There was the (rumours of a broken) cheekbone, fractured skull, broken rib, punctured lung. (I guess it was the) remarkable recuperative powers up in Noosa or wherever he went for the past four days. No, he (just) had a bad dose of concussion, and he's pretty good now. He's fine, 100%."
Despite the heavy concussion from the clash with Lloyd, Riley said it was unlikely Judd would need to wear a helmet in the future.
As well as their captain, the Blues expect several other players to return from injury after the break to face St Kilda.
"The list is getting full again, we've been selecting from 24 or 25 players of late. Now we're growing that again with (Jordan) Bannister back and (Andrew) Walker back, so that augurs well for the last eight weeks of the season."
The Blues will be aiming to overturn the Saints' seven-year stranglehold over them. St Kilda has won their past 10 meetings, including round two this year, with an average margin of 54 points.
"It's been donkey's years since we've beaten them," Riley said.
"When you're not very good for a long time you establish these terrible records and we're starting to smash a couple of those."
