ADAM GOODES continues to grow in confidence after his standout performance in Saturday's AFL Hall of Fame tribute match.
Three weeks after Swans coach Paul Roos admitted to "massive concern" about the dual Brownlow medallist's form, Goodes helped spark Victoria with an outstanding second term against the Dream Team at the MCG.
The Victorians recovered from a poor start to lead at half-time and won by 17 points.
"I feel great," Goodes said. "To represent the Big V was a good honour, and I thought I continued some good form that I'd had in the last couple of weeks."
The week after Roos's comments, Goodes was best on ground against North Melbourne and then had 26 disposals against the Western Bulldogs.
Fans were granted one of the game's most-anticipated match-ups in the first term when Goodes lined up on a wing against Richmond's Matthew Richardson, who is in career-best form.
Goodes only had one touch in the first quarter, but flourished in the second once he let Richardson go forward.
"I was probably in awe of 'Richo' in the first quarter, I was worried about what he was doing," Goodes said. "I thought, 'Hang on a minute, I know I can play, I've really just got to back myself against Richo,' and I really thought I turned it around in the second quarter, set up a few goals.
"I was just happy to break even with Richo at half-time. I was too worried about where he was, and I was caught in between playing on him and pushing off.
"I really made that conscious decision for the second quarter, that I had to attack him and beat him the way he was beating me in the first quarter."
Meanwhile, Collingwood said Josh Fraser, whose season looked jeopardy on Saturday night, could play when the Pies meet St Kilda on Friday.
The rumours of a premature end to the season for the Magpies' No.1 ruckman had been greatly exaggerated, according to the club.
Fraser has been tentatively diagnosed with a grade-one tear to his posterior cruciate ligament - an injury he is believed to have sustained in a knee-on-knee clash with an opposition ruckman in the final term of Saturday's game.
It was reported that Fraser had torn his posterior cruciate ligament and would miss up to 10 weeks, but swelling around the area was minimal yesterday morning and the Pies' football manager Geoff Walsh said that both Fraser and a Collingwood doctor, who was part of Victoria's medical team, had indicated the ruckman could play this week.
"He'll have a scan tomorrow but the scan will only confirm what our doc thinks - it's a mild strain, or a low-grade strain, so it's not too bad," Walsh said yesterday.
"[Dr Andrew Jowett] looked after him last night and has assessed him again this morning, and it's probably a grade-one posterior cruciate ligament strain, which is not too bad.
"The way Josh feels himself last night and again this morning, he was hopeful he could play this week Josh is saying that, and our doc said, 'If Josh is feeling like that, well then that's a good sign."'
Walsh said he knew on Saturday night that the damage to Fraser's knee wasn't anywhere near as bad as had been reported. "I don't know where that came from. It certainly didn't come from us," he said.
There was promising news for suspended West Coast Eagle Daniel Kerr yesterday, too.
A member of the Dream Team on Saturday night, Kerr had X-rays after receiving a knock to a shin in the opening term amid concerns he may have a cracked fibula. He was cleared of a fracture but has severe bruising, and with two weeks still to serve on his three-match suspension for head-butting, the midfielder is expected to return in round 10.
Jonathan Brown, who was desperate to lead Victoria despite being left out of Brisbane's round-seven clash with Geelong because of a quadriceps injury, pulled up fine after the tribute match.
