CARLTON spearhead Brendan Fevola has escaped punishment for his crude blocking attempt on West Coast tagger Adam Selwood, the match review panel last night deciding that Fevola's actions were "not unreasonable".

Fevola appeared to have struck Selwood in the stomach during the last quarter, but the panel decided there was no strike because the Blues' full-forward did not raise his arm or fist towards Selwood.

Selwood tagged his former captain, Carlton skipper Chris Judd, and the pair were booked for wrestling each other during the second quarter of the Blues' victory last Friday night at Subiaco. Both face $900 fines.

Essendon was not so lucky with the panel or the AFL yesterday, having two players suspended and being fined $5000.

The Bombers were fined after captain Matthew Lloyd, under instruction from coach Matthew Knights, approached the umpires at quarter-time of Sunday's game against Port Adelaide at Telstra Dome.

The Bombers also face losing Adam McPhee and Nathan Lovett-Murray for the round-eight clash against Sydney.

McPhee was charged with forceful front-on contact to Travis Boak, while Lovett-Murray was charged with striking Daniel Motlop. Geelong's Mathew Stokes also faces a one-game suspension for striking. Reports against West Coast's Chad Fletcher, St Kilda's Justin Koschitzke and Bulldog Stephen Tiller were dropped.
