DANIEL Cross kicked one goal for the Western Bulldogs last year, and he can't remember when, where or how it happened.
Against Melbourne yesterday, the onballer kicked three goals in the space of three minutes. They came at the end of the last quarter, with the Bulldogs safely home, but Cross said scoring was something he wanted to do more of this year.
"As a midfield group as a whole we really need to start helping our forwards out in that department," Cross said, after the 95-point win, in which the Bulldogs found 11 different goalscorers.
"The goals I got today were a bit of a bonus and I'm happy about that, but it's something I want to do on a more consistent basis, and we all do. It takes the pressure off guys like Brad Johnson not to have to kick four or five each week.
"I've worked really hard on my goalkicking and it's funny, the side I kicked them from today was my real voodoo side. If I can start scoring more it will be a real bonus."
The Bulldogs beat Melbourne in each quarter yesterday, with another pre-season ambition, Cross said, to not relax no matter how far in front.
"It's a real goal of ours at the end of each quarter to put the scoreboard behind us and make sure we win that quarter," he said. "In the past we've got a bit ahead of ourselves and thought we had a game won and teams started coming back at us.
"That's a part of our approach that has really improved, and we've spoken a lot about it. Right through the pre-season were were talking about being consistent."
