WEST Coast expects to find out this week if it can secure its hottest property, Daniel Kerr, with a planned two-day seminar with Kerr and its out-of-contract stars.
The Eagles' midfielder, who shapes as the biggest name on the table during next month's trade week, has asked for a five-year deal from next year, but the Eagles have stated they will offer a three-year deal on top of the one year remaining on his contract.
The Eagles' offer is also understood to include an on- and off-field behaviour clause. Kerr was suspended for a total of six matches during the 2007 season, but it has been his off-field antics in recent years that have been more concerning for the club.
Kerr has said he was willing to have a no-pay, no-play clause in his next contract. The Sunday Age understands that several clubs with Sydney chasing the hardest have put five-year contract offers, with no special clauses, to Kerr's management.
Kerr's manager, Colin Young, said he had received several offers in the past month.
"Of course, there's offers but nothing is really talked about and I put them through to the West Coast Eagles Football Club," Young said.
"At the moment, Daniel is a contracted player at West Coast and nothing can be done until a decision has been made from both parties."
The two-day seminar this week appears a desperate attempt by the club to re-sign key players, including Kerr and David Wirrpanda. West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett would not reveal specifics of the seminar, saying only that it would run through the fundamentals of what the club was about.
"Daniel Kerr is one of them that will sit down with West Coast this week," Young said.
"That's all I know so far, so until they have that seminar, we won't be able to discuss anything further."
Young said there had been very little movement between Kerr and West Coast in the past two weeks.
"The last two weeks couldn't have been quieter on the Kerr front," he said.
"But I'd expect there to be some movement at the end of this week."
Sydney is expected to become a key player in next month's trade period with several of its stars, in addition to Peter Everitt and Ben Mathews, set to bow out after Friday's night semi-final loss to the Western Bulldogs.
Swans football manager Andrew Ireland yesterday refused to comment about Kerr. Other teams, including St Kilda and Carlton, have also been linked to Kerr.
