CARLTON will consider recruiting ruckman Jeff White if he moves from Melbourne at the end of this season, Blues coach Brett Ratten has said.

White, 31, is out of contract this year and has made it clear that he will seek to play out his career at another club if, as is widely expected, the Demons choose not to re-sign him for 2009.

Ratten said the former All-Australian big man could be a good bridging option while the Blues develop their young ruckmen Matthew Kreuzer and Shaun Hampson.

"We think we've got some young ruckmen that are coming through, they might need another year or two to develop, that might be (the) thing that is out there, that we could have a look at Jeff, but we'd have to sit down and analyse where he's at," Ratten said yesterday.

"Nothing beats getting the homegrown talent and bringing them through yourself … so we've got Hampson and Kreuzer who are going to grow into men, but we need to be mindful that we can't ask young boys to do men's jobs week in, week out, so that makes it tough as well."

Looking forward to the 2009 season, Ratten played down speculation that Carlton could make a play for Eagles midfield star Daniel Kerr, who is widely tipped to be traded at the end of the year.

"Everyone seems to be pointing the bone at us with Daniel," Ratten said, "and I think he's a fantastic player, but he's in contract to the West Coast Eagles and I daresay he'll probably finish his career at West Coast.

"But I do like watching Daniel play, like every other coach in the AFL, so if West Coast said he was available or said someone else from their club was available we'd sit down and have a look, see what they wanted and go from there."

With Carlton effectively out of the race for the finals, Blues fans will now be hoping that spearhead Brendan Fevola gives them a memorable end to the season by adding to the 90 goals he has kicked this season to crack the elusive ton.

That could happen in round 22, when the Blues meet Hawthorn at Telstra Dome, with the possibility that Hawthorn's star forward Lance Franklin could also kick his 100th goal for the season in that game.

Given the level of hype that would surround that game if that were to happen, Ratten said he would support the AFL moving the match to the MCG, where they could accommodate a larger crowd.

And while Fevola's goalkicking feats have often kept the Blues alive this season, Ratten said that his team could not continue to rely on him alone to kick the bulk of its score.

He acknowledged the gap between Fevola and the Blues' next leading goalkicker, Eddie Betts, who has kicked 25 this season, was a damning statistic.

"If next year it happens again, I'd daresay it will be very hard for us to play finals," Ratten said.

"We need to find other avenues to goal."
