CARLTON has created room on its list ahead of next month's AFL draft by cutting six players yesterday.
The Blues, who are one of the clubs still interested in Sydney's Ryan O'Keefe, cut Cain Ackland, Clinton Benjamin, Luke Blackwell, Ryan Jackson and Aisake O'hAilpin from the list and also announced the retirement of Jason Saddington.
Michael Jamison, who impressed as a key defender this year, was elevated from the rookie list to the primary list. Jamison was recruited from Newlyn via North Ballarat in the 2007 rookie draft and made his AFL debut in round 18, 2007, after being elevated to the senior list. He played the remaining five games that year and, again as a nominated rookie in 2008, played a further 16 games.
Saddington retires from the AFL after playing 162 games, including two in his final year. He joined Carlton after being traded from Sydney in 2005. He played 142 games for Sydney between 1998 and 2005.
With Saddington's retirement, Jamison's promotion and the arrival of Fremantle ruckman Robert Warnock in a trade, Carlton has four places open on its senior list coming into the draft.
Ackland played 21 games for Carlton, his third AFL club after Port Adelaide (for whom he played 41 games) and St Kilda (12 games).
Blackwell was a father-son pick in the 2004 national draft. His father, Wayne Blackwell, played 110 games between 1984 and 1990. Jackson played nine senior games while neither Benjamin nor O'hAilpin played a senior game for the club.
On the coaching side, Gavin Crosisca has not been offered a new contract as an assistant.
Adelaide also announced changes to its list, delisting 28-year-old Kris Massie and young duo Luke Jericho and Bryce Campbell.
Massie, who was traded from Carlton in 2002, played 88 games for the Crows, including nine out of the last 10 games last season. He is the latest victim of a policy aimed at rejuvenating one of the AFL's oldest lists.
Jericho, 23, played only 33 games in six seasons, but could attract attention from rival clubs. An athletic forward, he kicked five goals against Richmond in round 11 this year, but was squeezed out of the side.
Campbell, 24, played eight games with the Crows in the midfield.
Adelaide football operations manager John Reid said the delistings had been difficult decisions.
"Kris in particular has given the club great service playing 88 games for Adelaide," Reid said.
The Crows have now made six changes to the 2008 primary list with Rhett Biglands, Nathan Bassett and Ken McGregor already having announced their retirements.
At this stage, the Crows will have six picks at the national draft at the end of November.
