Geelong playmaker Gary Ablett has been ruled out of the Victorian team for Saturday night's Hall of Fame Tribute match at the MCG.

The 23-year-old, who was a late withdrawal against the Brisbane Lions at Skilled Stadium last Saturday with a calf injury, joins Victorian midfielder Luke Hodge (hamstring) on the sidelines.

Ablett won't get the chance this year to follow in the steps of his legendary father Gary Ablett senior in representing his state.
